Close call when car drives thru El Cajon store

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CBS 8) – A huge mess was left behind after a car drove through the glass storefront of an alterations shop in El Cajon, and surprisingly nobody was hurt in the wreck.

The driver slammed into the store around 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The shop is located in a strip mall in the 900 block of Broadway, near Mollison Avenue.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Camry was trying to park in front of the store when she mistook the gas pedal for the brake. The car sped through the glass front window, but did not do any major damage the structure itself.

Three people were working inside at the time, but amazingly managed to avoid getting hurt. Shop owner Nancy Nguyen says her grandchildren were also inside the store with her when the accident happened.

The driver had two passengers in the car and they were all uninjured.

If you've ever been stuck sitting in traffic, you've probably seen motorcyclists cutting through lanes and whizzing by. It's a move called lane-splitting, and while it's potentially dangerous, it's perfectly legal.
