Thousands take part in La Jolla Half Marathon

LA JOLLA (CBS 8) - More than 6,000 runners hit the pavement Sunday morning for the 32nd Annual La Jolla Half Marathon.

The competition kicked off at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and took the runners through beautiful La Jolla before ending at Scripps Park.

In light of what happened at the Boston Marathon, the half marathon organizers say they worked closely with law enforcement to make sure everyone was safe.

In the end, everyone had a great time, including the spectators that showed up to support their loved ones.

"We had little daughter trying to get ready for mama who is running her first half marathon. And we're very excited to see her pass us at this special corner," said Marcie Lukasik.

Among those running the La Jolla Half Marathon was News 8's Carlo Cecchetto.
