SDG&E launches Environmental Champions Initiative

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego Gas and Electric is kicking off its annual Environmental Champions Initiative.

The program will award $1 million in community grants to local nonprofits. The money will support and collaborative projects that focus on engaging and educating K-12 students about improving the environment.

"We believe that if we educate our youth about the environmental assets they'll take that message home to their parents and help educate them as well," Frank Urtasun of SDG&E said.

Organizations have until May 31 to submit their proposals to SDG&E. The winners will be selected and announced early this summer.
