High school theater students compete in "Globe Honors"

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Some of San Diego's most talented high school theater students were in Balboa Park Saturday to audition for the Old Globe's "2013 Globe Honors."

Students compete in one of four categories: outstanding achievement in musical theater, spoke theater, technical theater and leading role in a high school musical.

The judges at the Old Globe say the competition always brings out the best in students.

"When someone shines, it's pretty undeniable. And I think we would all agree that when someone comes in and blows us away that we can all look at each other and go, 'Yes! That's what we're looking for," said Education Program Manager Kim Heil.

Preliminary round auditions for the Globe Honors continue Sunday. The semi-finalists and finalists will compete before a live audience on May 20th.

The winners will each get a $1,000 scholarship.
