The west end of Florida Court remains closed to through traffic pending street repairs.

Crews Tuesday are expected to resume work at Florida Court and Georgia Street, where a water main break made a huge mess Monday evening.

THIS IS A STORY UPDATE. AN EARLIER STORY IS BELOW.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A six-inch water main burst underneath a North Park street Monday, sending thousands of gallons of water flooding onto neighboring streets.

It happened at Florida Court and Georgia Street.

Late Monday night, crews had torn up the asphalt and created a huge hole in the street, as they attempted to repair the broken six-inch pipe.

Neighbors frantically tried to save their belongings as water flowed into nearby homes. At least two apartments were damaged.

The water also buckled the street and sidewalk, which will also need to be replaced.

The city told News 8 there is no way to predict when water main breaks are likely to happen.

Earlier Monday, a view from Chopper 8 showed water coming through at least two locations on the roadway, with water flowing down the street onto Florida Street below. Police vehicles had to block off the street to through traffic.
