Collage Unique Gifts' grand opening

Posted: Updated:

OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - Step into Collage Unique Gifts in Oceanside and you'll step back in time. The front counter is steeped in nostalgia, a tribute to Edna White's dad and the store they once ran together.

"In 1971 I started this store in Colden, south of Buffalo, New York," Edna said.

Now, along with her daughter Leah, and partner, former Cornell University professor Olen Yoder, she has opened Collage Unique Gifts on South Coast Highway.

"I wanted to have unique, different gifts for the store," Edna said.

Along with exotic aromas of soaps and candles, there are antique handcrafted miniatures. Collage Unique Gifts features a year-round holiday room with an antique doll house filled with ornaments. There are also carvings from local crafters.

"I have a gentleman who carves these. They are beautiful, they are redwood -- you can put them outside or keep them in," Edna said.

You'll also find some of Edna's original artwork on the walls.

The trio of owners has been working on the gift shop for three months, getting it ready for the official opening.

Edna chose this area for her shop because it felt like home.

"I am from a rural community and we wanted more of a down home feeling, and this was it," she said.

With a knack for nostalgia and a flair for art, Collage Unique Gifts seeks to find their stride in Oceanside.
