Mother arrested in near-drowning of baby

CITY HEIGHTS (CNS) - A baby was found unconscious and nearly drowned in a City heights apartment, and the mother was arrested Saturday, police said.

Whitney Holman, 22, was booked into Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility on suspicion of attempted murder and child abuse, Lt. Chuck Kaye of the San Diego Police Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Unit said.

Police responded at 3:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a possibly drowned young child in an apartment in the 4100 block of 42nd Street, in City Heights.

When they arrived, medics found the baby unresponsive and performed CPR at the scene before taking the child to Rady Children's Hospital.

The child, believed to be less than a year old, remains in critical condition, police said.

The name and gender of the child were not released by police.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An infant was found unconscious and unresponsive at a City Heights apartment Friday in an apparent case of near-drowning, authorities reported.

Someone made a call shortly after 3:30 p.m. to report the emergency in the 4100 block of 42nd Street, according to San Diego police.

Two SDPD officers performed CPR at the scene before taking the victim to Rady Children's Hospital, according to police. 

The baby was believed to be less than a year old. The name and gender of the baby and further details about what happened were not immediately available.
