SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sunday San Diego Mayor Bob Filner sat down with News 8 to discuss San Diego and Tijuana's bi-national bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The US Olympic committee says the joint bid is on a list of 10 cities that are interested in the summer games.

On Monday, Mayor Filner met with former Republican presidential candidate and La Jolla resident Mitt Romney, who led the organizing committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The mayor says Romney pledged to advise him.

"He gives us instant credibility that we have someone who understands this process. He gave me a whole sense of reality...Both for the obstacles, but for the possibilities," he said. "And, I think it's going to be very exciting for the city."

Mayor Filner says a bi-national committee will be announced very shortly.
