SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Monday for help in identifying a man who threatened a San Diego State University student with a gun over the weekend while making a failed attempt to kidnap her on a roadside near the campus.

The would-be abductor confronted the 19-year-old victim in the 5800 block of Lindo Paseo shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, displayed a black pistol and ordered her to come with him, according to police. The woman turned and fled, escaping unharmed.

She described the perpetrator as a clean-shaven, roughly 6-foot-tall and 180-pound white man in his 30s or early 40s, with short blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing rectangular-framed glasses, jeans, a blue T-shirt and a tan jacket. He may have arrived in the area in a dark-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck, SDPD Lt. Chuck Kaye said.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
