Charges filed against mother accused of trying to drown baby

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Arraignment has been delayed for a young mother accused of trying to drown her nine-month old daughter in a bathtub.

Twenty-two-year-old Whitney Holman is charged her with premeditated attempted murder and felony child abuse. She was arrested after police found the girl in the tub after being called out to her City Heights apartment Friday afternoon.

Holman's aunt says Holman has mental issues and accuses child protective services of not doing anything to help her.

"And this is an unfortunate situation because both of them should have received accurate and courteous help from the system," said Andrea Burnett-Davis, Holman's Aunt.

Holman's arraignment has been postponed to June 11. She's being held on $1 million bail.

Her attorney says she is considering pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
