Local agencies prepare to send aid to Oklahoma

Relief agencies, including the local Red Cross chapter are making plans to give Oklahoma some much needed help.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Relief agencies, including the local Red Cross chapter are making plans to give Oklahoma some much needed help.

One local Red Cross staff member, Curt Luthye an expert in disaster coordination, will be helping arrange the agency's relief efforts from The Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington D.C. The Disaster Operations Center in San Diego armed him with the information he'll use for the operation. He will help organize efforts to obtain needed supplies to Moore.

The local chapter is also gathering supplies and warning other volunteers so that they're ready when more help is requested.

If you'd like to help their efforts, the Red Cross is accepting donations. You can go online and donate to the Red Cross disaster relief fund, or text 90999 from your mobile phone.

The Salvation Army is organizing disaster response units to serve hard-hit areas of Oklahoma, including mobile kitchens to serve meals. Text the word STORM to 80888 to make a $10 donation.
