Innocent woman hit by driver during police chase

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A stolen vehicle crashed off a Mountain View-area street during a police chase Thursday and struck a pedestrian, leaving the person with two broken legs and the driver under arrest, authorities reported.

Jasmine Ford, 24, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft and evading police after being taken to a hospital to be checked out, San Diego police said.

The pursuit began about 1:30 p.m. when Ford, driving a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SUV reported stolen in Mira Mesa earlier in the day, sped away from officers who tried to pull her over on Ocean View Boulevard near Interstate 805, according to San Diego police.

Moments later, the woman lost control of the westbound vehicle on a curve near 40th Street, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said. The vehicle veered off the road, hitting a tree and a woman in her early 60s walking on the roadside.

Medics took the injured woman to UCSD Medical Center.
