SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man is in custody after leading sheriff's deputies on a slow-speed chase on Interstate 8.

Authorities say they received a call around 1:15 p.m. Thursday regarding a man in a motorhome exposing himself while parked in a church parking lot.

Deputies located the vehicle, but the man refused to stop, getting on the freeway at Tavern Road. He ran over a spike strip, but still refused to stop.

"During that time, he would stop periodically, act as if he was going to comply. Then he would take off again," explained Sgt. Kevin Barrett with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

When the suspect finally stopped near Buckman Springs, deputies fired pepper balls into the motorhome to get him to surrender.

The suspect was then transported to a local hospital to be evaluated before being booked into county jail.
