SAN DIEGO (AP) — A fire in San Diego County wilderness has scorched 750 acres of dry brush but is not burning near structures.

State fire Capt. Mike Mohler says the blaze southeast of Julian was sparked around midday Sunday in the Banner Grade area.

It was still burning out of control several hours later, pushed by winds expected to remain until Monday afternoon.

City News Service says firefighters initially requested state Route 78 be closed near Scissors Crossing. But California Highway Patrol officers on that 10-mile stretch said conditions were rapidly changing, and the road is open but being monitored.

A second wildfire that had been burning since Thursday about 30 miles east of Julian is 100 percent contained.

That fire consumed more than four square miles of desert scrub.
