Police chase ends in Mission Valley

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist who briefly refused to yield to a patrol officer on State Route 163 Wednesday led a several-mile pursuit that ended with his arrest and a short closure of a stretch of the freeway in Mission Valley, police said.

The chase began near Genesee Avenue in Linda Vista shortly after 3 p.m., according to San Diego police.

While fleeing to the south, the unidentified motorist threw some type of objects out of his car several times, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said.

After about two minutes, the man pulled over just north of Friars Road and was taken into custody.

Authorities closed the southbound side of the route for about 10 minutes while officers searched in vain for whatever the motorist had hurled out of the vehicle.

The freeway reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m., the lieutenant said.
