CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Nestor man who allegedly stabbed a transient to death near strawberry fields in southern Chula Vista is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Hector Pablo Molina, 58, was arrested on suspicion of murder Monday afternoon, about 45 minutes after the slaying of David Lee Craig, according to Chula Vista police.

Craig, 55, was found near the 2800 block of Main Street shortly after 3:30 p.m., police said.

A witness saw the assailant flee in a red pickup and wrote the license number in some roadside dirt, police said.

The vehicle was traced to a home in the 2100 block of Clairton Place, where Molina was arrested after he was seen exiting the home and getting into the pickup, police said.

Craig lived in a van and apparently looked after the farmland where he was slain, according to police.

Molina was denied bail pending arraignment.
