Funding secured for I-15 Rapid bus stations

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Funding has been secured for building new bus stations along Interstate 15 in the Mid-City corridor.

SANDAG is adding $23 million to its budget to complete the Mid-City Centerline Bus Rapid Transit Station Project.

Two freeway-level stations will be built on the 15, at El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue for buses travelling in freeway express lanes.

Residents in the area have been pushing for this project for nearly 30 years.

"This project means jobs, its accessing jobs in the north, the Golden Triangle and in downtown that this bus line will provide," City Council President Todd Gloria said.

Construction is expected to begin sometime next year.
