"We have liverwurst, three different kinds," Christel said. "Then we have different kinds of baloney, at least 10 different. We have blood and tongue sausage, head cheese."
Sausage & More features Polish sausages and even British bangers. But this Deutchland deli is really bullish on brats.
"We have smoked bratwurst. We have excellent fresh bratwurst, the one of the barbeque. Then we have wieners. They are made in a natural casing," Christel said.
It's all served with homemade German sides, like potato salad with onion and bacon.
"We make it every day fresh, because it needs to be warm when you serve. And we make sauerkraut and red cabbage," Christel said.
Now Christel is no fraulein-come-lately to serving up authentic German cuisine. For 10 years, she worked at the iconic Sausage King, a Mission Hills staple for over 40 years. She keeps a shrine to Sausage King, that includes his original cash register.
At lunch time, Sausage and More serves up handcrafted sandwiches from the deli case, along with some daily specials.
"Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we make schnitzel. Everybody knows schnitzel. It comes with the mushroom gravy and a side order of potato salad and red cabbage," Christel said.
In a nondescript strip mall in Lakeside, the sausage queen is reigning over some of the most authentic finds this side of the Rhine.
