SAN DIEGO (CBS8) - The San Diego Mystic 2K girls softball team is fresh off a first place finish at a tournament in Oklahoma City, and players say their time trapped on a hotel bathroom floor during a tornado that brought them closer together.

On May 28, the team was forced inside of the bathroom of their hotel to ride out an EF5 tornado that touched down nearby. This week the National Weather Service announced the tornado was the widest one recorded in US history at 2.6 miles.

Last week's tornado ultimately killed at least 19 people, according to reports.

The Mystic 2K players arrived back in San Diego on Tuesday.

The girls placed first in their 12 & Under age bracket.

They're already practicing for their next tournament which will be held in San Diego in July.
