EL CAJON (CBS 8) - The Army National Guard is helping clean up and spruce up three El Cajon parks.

About 60 guard members headed to the Kennedy, Wells, and Hillside parks for several hours Sunday.

Volunteers laid mulch, pulled weeds, did some painting, and a number of other tasks.

The local National Guard offices are relocating to El Cajon from Kearny Mesa and this was their way of saying thank you to the city for welcoming them.

"Being able to give back to the community, to El Cajon, is outstanding. It's just truly an honor to give back. It's a way for me and my men to say thank you," said First Sergeant Andrew McKindley.

The timing is perfect for the city's upcoming annual 4th of July Centennial Picnic and Fireworks Show at Kennedy Park.
