CITY HEIGHTS (CBS 8) - A 63-year-old man was hospitalized Monday with serious but not life-threatening head injuries after being struck by a car in the City Heights area, police said.

The victim was in a crosswalk on the 4100 block of Fairmount Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Sunday when he was struck.

People living in the area tell News 8, the victim was a well-known homeless man in his mid-sixties.

Witnesses say the driver was speeding.

"I saw everything, ya know man, he go so fast, and I tried to throw my hands to stop and uh, he don't stop ya know... Oh my gosh," said Andy Tran.

The 58-year-old driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. They don't think drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
