San Diego teen kidnapped, flown to Florida by man he met online

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - A missing Escondido teen has been found thousands of miles away from home. Authorities say he was kidnapped and flown to Florida by a man he met online.

The 14-year-old boy, who was missing since Monday, is now in protective custody in Tampa, Florida. The suspect, Tony McLeod, 36, is in police custody.

The boy's parents contacted police after the boy didn't return home from school Monday. They reportedly told police before this incident their son was receiving explicit sexual text messages from McLeod, who is from Tampa.

It was later confirmed the suspect flew out of Long Beach with the 14-year-old and traveled to Tampa. With quick work by Tampa police and the U.S. Marshals Service, authorities were able to meet both the suspect and teenager at the airport, where McLeod was taken into custody.

On Tuesday night, Tampa police filed charges of kidnapping, interfering with custody, traveling to meet a minor and transmission of harmful material to a minor against McLeod.
