World's largest Lego model unveiled in Carlsbad

Posted: Updated:

CARLSBAD (CNS) - The world's largest Lego model, which depicts a "Star Wars"' X-wing starfighter, was unveiled at the Legoland California Resort Thursday morning.

The model is 43 feet long, 11 feet tall, weighs nearly 46,000 pounds and includes around five million Lego bricks, according to the theme park. It took 32 model builders about 17,000 hours to complete.

The X-wing was built in honor of "LEGO Star Wars The Yoda Chronicles,'' a new show on the Cartoon Network, featuring Yoda, the Jedi Master, park officials said.

The model made its debut recently in Times Square in New York City.

A 9 a.m. unveiling event is scheduled for the media.

At 10 a.m., Legoland pass members will have four hours of exclusive access to the model's hangar. All guests will be able to see the X-wing beginning at 2 p.m.
