Driver injured fleeing from traffic stop in Miramar area

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was injured Thursday when he crashed a sedan near Miramar Memorial Golf Course while fleeing a traffic stop, authorities reported.

The accident on Carroll Road at Miramar Road occurred shortly before 3 p.m., following a brief pursuit, according to San Diego police.

The speeding motorist had been trying to elude officers for less than 10 minutes when he lost control of the black 1992 Acura he was driving, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said. The car crashed and overturned, coming to rest upside-down.

Emergency crews freed the motorist, whose name was not immediately available, from the damaged vehicle and took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries of undetermined severity.

It was unclear why police initially tried to pull over the driver.
