Padres to conduct 'Salute to the Military child'

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Padres will conduct a Salute to the Military Child at Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park.

Children with a parent or parents in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army will line the bases and be recognized and participate in "Military Take the Field."

The national anthem will be performed by Jazmine Rogers, whose father, Maj. Jacques Rogers, has served in the Marine Corps for 16 years and been deployed six times, including to Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Padres will mark Father's Day by allowing fans to play catch on the outfield grass following the game and joining in the Major League Baseball-wide effort to raise awareness for prostate cancer and raise money for research to fight the disease.

Throughout Major League Baseball, players, managers, coaches, trainers, umpires and groundskeepers will wear blue wristbands and blue ribbon uniform decals to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Special blue lineup cards will be used.

Sunday marks the end of the six-day Prostate Cancer Foundation Home Run Challenge, where fans and sponsors pledge to make donations for each home run hit in selected games.
