Man killed in Golden Hill crash identified

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Sunday released the name of a 29-year-old San Diego man who man off state Route 94 and struck a palm tree in the Golden Hill neighborhood, killing himself and seriously injuring his 15-year-old female passenger last week.

Erick Zuniga was driving a white Acura Integra west on state Route 94 near 25th Street, but lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. He was wearing a seatbelt, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

The car overturned before striking the tree near the 2500 block of F Street, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Emergency personnel confirmed Zuniga's death without medial intervention, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

The teenage passenger sustained major injuries and was taken to UCSD Medical Center, CHP Officer Jake Sanchez.
