Military families make up for missed Christmas

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - More than 500 military family members separated during the holiday season got a chance to make up for lost time Monday.

The Christmas You Missed celebration, hosted by the Armed Services YMCA San Diego, was held at the Murphy Canyon Youth Center.

The event featured falling snow, Christmas carols and an appearance from Santa Claus.

Families say it's a great way to make up for the time they are apart.

"Being military, you learn to compromise and this is a really good compromise. I mean, if it wasn't for events like this, we wouldn't be able to re-create Christmas," military member Jose Camacho said.

More than 75 commands from six military installations were represented at Monday's event.
