SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A homeless man is being credited with helping to keep a restaurant from possibly going up in flames in Hillcrest.
Firefighters responded to the fire on Richmond Street and University Avenue where they found flames in the back of the Amarin Thai restaurant. They also found a homeless man, Richard Woods, who first spotted the fire and took action:
"At first I thought it was a fire pit burning, but then I saw it was more, so I booked over there and grabbed a planter box and started tossing dirt on the fire until the flames go down."
Woods is being praised for his fast action by keeping the flames from spreading.
The cause is still under investigation.
