Summer camp helps widowed people heal

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It began as an idea to help widowed people heal from their loss and rebuild their lives. Now, Camp Widow has returned to San Diego, where it was born, to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

Camp Widow was created by Michele Neff Hernandez.

The three-day summer camp brings widowed people from all walks of life together to create an atmosphere of healing, learning and comfort.

"In the loss of a spouse or life partner, pretty much everything you know is turned upside down. And we really focus on promoting unique tools and a community of people who are also recreating their lives, to help people figure out what their next steps are for life," Hernandez said.

Camp Widow runs from Friday through Sunday at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina.
