Small brush fire burns close to homes in Escondido

Posted: Updated:

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - A close call for people living in Escondido after a small brush fire came dangerously close to their homes.

It broke out just before 2 p.m. Saturday near Ball Avenue and North Ash Street.

Tim Craddock says he was looking out his window when he noticed some nearby brush was on fire. He tried to put out the flames with a garden hose, but it was no use.

So Craddock called firefighters, who made quick work of the fire.

"Luckily though, it didn't burn this house over here or this house where it got way close. It merely burnt the fence on the outside. So I think we definitely got lucky today."

The fire burned about one acre. The cause is under investigation.
