Santee man killed in bizarre crash on SR-52

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man killed early Sunday on Highway 52 after losing control of a vehicle and crashing was identified by the Medical Examiner.

The Medical Examiner said the crash victim was 28-year-old Sergio Joseph Dyda, of Santee, who lived with his mother and siblings.

Dyda was the solo occupant of a Subaru Outback headed westbound on State Route 52 at 4:46 a.m. west of Santo Road at a high rate of speed, according to the Medical Examiner.

"The driver lost control and slid across other traffic lanes, crashing into the center divider," CHP Sgt. Connie Lloyd said. "The vehicle then veered across traffic lanes to the right side of the freeway and hit the right-hand rail, ejecting the driver."

Lloyd said the driverless vehicle then continued about a mile down the freeway until it came to rest at the off-ramp to Santo Road.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Heartland paramedics.

Freeway lanes were closed temporarily.
