U.S. Coast Guard rescues 2 men from capsized watercraft

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego rescued two men from a capsized personal watercraft off the coast Sunday.

The Joint Harbor Operations Center received a 911 distress call from the two men at 11:40 p.m stating that they were about two miles offshore near the border, according to Petty officer 1st class Henry G. Dunphy of Coast Guard Public Affairs Detachment San Diego.

Dunphy said an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was dispatched from Sector San Diego to aid the distressed men.

The aircrew located the two men just south of the border at 1:15 a.m., according to Dunphy.

The crew deployed a rescue swimmer who hoisted the pair into the helicopter.

The men, both Mexican nationals, were transported safely to Sector San Diego, where they were met by U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for customs screening, according to Dunphy.
