Local flights affected by San Francisco plane crash

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - This weekend's plane crash had a ripple effect on flights across the nation, including here in San Diego.

Yesterday, more than a dozen San Francisco-bound flights from Lindbergh Field were canceled.

Pat Costello, who lives here in San Diego, was onboard a Southwest flight that was about to take off when she and her fellow passengers were told about the plane crash.

She says they waited on the tarmac about 15 minutes before they were told their flight would not be taking off.

Passengers were then allowed to reschedule their flights.

"I'm very pleased with the way Southwest handled it. They conveyed that there had been something important that had happened. And yet, they were composed and kept everybody calm and assisted us throughout the entire process," she said.

Many travelers decided to fly into nearby Oakland to avoid long delays flying into San Francisco.
