SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Right now, students at Grant Elementary in Mission Hills are on summer vacation. But on Wednesday a curious hawk decided to fly into a classroom and check it out.

A custodian at Grant Elementary says he left a classroom door open just before he was going to clean it. When he came back, the hawk was inside.

The custodian tried to shoo the bird out of the classroom, but it flew right into a window.

"It's scary because I was trying to go make it go to the door and I scared and spooked it. And it backed up and just flew straight into it (the window). And it was like a real big crash," custodian Didier Campbell said. "It fell and it was knocked out for a while."

Once the hawk came to, the school called Project Wildlife to rescue the bird. But when the hawk saw the volunteer with a net, it flew right out of the classroom and back into the wild.
