Man hiking John Muir Trail to raise money for Nicaraguan school

Posted: Updated:

(CBS 8) - A Temecula man is hiking the John Muir Trail to raise money for a very good cause.

Luke Pytlik, 34, began the 211-mile hike Wednesday morning with his friend, Army Staff Sergeant Bradly Peterson.

Pytlik is raising money to rebuild an elementary school in Nicaragua. He said he was inspired to help after seeing the school during a recent trip.

"While we were down there we found another school that was, it hosts 120 students. It was just, it was in shambles. It was not acceptable. It had dirt floors, no walls," he said.

Luke plans to go back to Nicaragua with the money to rebuild the school.
