Volunteers remodel wheelchair-bound veteran's home

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Volunteer students and contractors are fixing up the home of a veteran who uses a wheelchair.

"The least that we can do is to serve those that have given up so much to allow us to live the lifestyles that we live as Americans," Embrace founder Sean Sheppard said.

Marine Corps Captain Sarah Bettencourt was forced to retire from the military after developing a rare neurological disorder.

On Wednesday, volunteers from Embrace, a local nonprofit that serves civilian and veteran communities, began the remodeling project to make Bettencourt's Clairemont home better equipped for her needs.
