SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Homicide detectives Tuesday investigated the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in the Skyline area.

The man was shot while standing near a sidewalk area in the 7900 block of Skyline Drive about 10:10 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police homicide Lt. Mike Hastings. He was shot at least once and died shortly after being taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Hastings said in a statement.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim and others were standing near the sidewalk area when several individuals walked up," he said.

"The victim was shot and the suspect group fled towards Meadowbrook Drive."

No other injuries were immediately reported. The victim's name was withheld pending family notification.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call SDPD's Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
