SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A brush fire that broke out near Lake Hodges Thursday afternoon was contained by fire crews working on the ground and in the air.

The fire broke out late afternoon near the north shore near the 19100 block of Lake Drive in the Del Dios area.

The blaze sent plumes of smoke into the air that was visible for miles.

Two air tankers were being brought in to fight the fire, and two ASTREA helicopters made water drops. The spread of the fire was halted by early Thursday evening. The fire burned a little over 10 acres.

The cause of the fire was not known.
