FBI unveils new headquarters

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The FBI is showing off its new headquarters in Sorrento Valley.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held there on Tuesday.

The 250,000-square-foot facility officially went into operation two months ago.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Daphne Hearn says it's a big upgrade from the old building in Kearny Mesa.

"It's nice to see employees having lunch together in the courtyard, working out together in the gym, to have a meeting with some of our external partners and not apologize for the carpet squares that were glued on the walls in the hopes of providing some sort of sound-proofing," Hearn said.

The new building is located on Vista Sorrento Parkway just off Interstate 805.
