SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Residents of the northern half of San Diego who wished to watch "The Help" or episodes of "Magic City" on television Friday night were out of luck as Time Warner Cable will block the Showtime network as part of a dispute with CBS.

The cable operator and network have been engaged in long and contentious negotiations that remain unresolved.

A statement from Time Warner Cable said, "We agreed to an extension on Tuesday morning with the expectation that we would engage in a meaningful negotiation with CBS. Since then, CBS has refused to have a productive discussion.

"It's become clear that no matter how much time we give them, they're not willing to come to reasonable terms. We thank our customers for their patience and support as we continue to fight hard to keep their prices down."

Time Warner has pulled over-the-air television stations owned and operated by CBS off the air, as well.

Since KFMB, also known as CBS 8, is not owned and operated by CBS, it still will be carried by TWC.

The dispute does not affect customers of Cox Cable, the cable franchise for the city in neighborhoods mostly south of Interstate 8.

Time Warner has a similar snag with Fox Sports, which it refuses to carry, leaving its customers without access to Padres baseball games.
