Pedestrian killed by motorist in Mira Mesa, DUI suspected

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A traffic accident in Mira Mesa left a pedestrian dead Wednesday and a motorist behind bars on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Matias Escobar Aguilar, 26, allegedly was drunk and speeding when the westbound 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck he was driving hit the 25-year-old man as he stood in the roadway in the 10900 block of Sunny Meadow Street about 6:45 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The victim died at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Aguilar, who allegedly was driving without a license, was booked into San Diego Central Jail. He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
