Escondido council votes to keep country club green space

The fight over the former Escondido Country Club has reached the City Council.

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - The fight over what to do with what was the Escondido Country Club is far from over.

Council members voted Wednesday night to keep the golf course as an open space, blocking an effort to build on the land.

At issue: developers want to build new homes on the sprawling property, but residents want to keep it an open space.

The owner of the golf course says he plans to sue and that the decision could end up costing the city millions.

The council says they've saved money by not putting the issue on a ballot.

The country club closed in April.
