SR-78 near Ramona reopens after big rig accident

SAN PASQUAL (CNS) - A big rig hauling scrap metal overturned on State Route 78 near Ramona early Friday, forcing an eight-hour closure of the rural route.

The non-injury crash near San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities shut down a stretch of the roadway just west of Guejito Truck Trail to allow for cleanup. The route was fully reopened as of 12:40 p.m., CHP public affairs Officer Robert Catano said.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A tractor-trailer took out several feet of guardrail and overturned along Highway 78 early Friday, forcing a major road closure in the San Pasqual Valley area just in time for the morning commute.

The crash between the San Pasqual Academy and Guejito Road was reported at 4:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Highway 78 from the San Pasqual Academy to Guejito Road -- a major commuter corridor out of Ramona -- was closed for cleanup, the CHP reported.

As of 7 a.m., crews had uprighted the vehicle but its load and other debris remained on the roadway. The CHP estimated total cleanup time would be about five hours.

No injuries were immediately reported.
