Man rescued after being trapped by boulder

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Firefighters rescued a man who became trapped underneath a large boulder Friday at his La Mesa home.

Dusty Brown, 71, was digging a drainage line about four feet deep at his home Friday morning when the 250-pound boulder came loose, fell on top of him and into his lap.

"It hit my shoulder and crunched me like this, then fell down and pinned my legs against the bottom of it and against the wall. So I was on my knees with my toes bent up for about 20 minutes," said Brown.

Brown says he tried for about 10 minutes to free himself, but eventually had his wife call 911.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to get the rock off the victim with pry bars, after which he was able to scale a ladder to safety. Medics took the seemingly uninjured man to a hospital for a precautionary examination, Heartland spokesman Sonny Saghera said.

He was evaluated by paramedics and is expected to be okay.
