Coalition of state legislators backs Fletcher

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher picked up the support of a group of current and former state legislators Tuesday.

Senators Ben Hueso and Marty Block and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez joined Fletcher at Cesar Chavez Park for the announcement.

Fifteen other democratic lawmakers are also backing Fletcher, saying he has the leadership skills to move the city forward.

"Life is not about philosophies and about black and white, it's about working in the gray area and Nathan is the best person in this race to bring people together to solve real world problems," Hueso said.

The city clerk's office announced Tuesday that 11 candidates for mayor have qualified for the November 19 special election. One of those candidates, City Councilman David Alvarez, also picked up an endorsement Tuesday from the Environmental Health and Justice Campaign.
