SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Two prowling suspects are in custody Wednesday morning, after a high speed chase ends in a fiery crash.

The chase, which hit 80 miles-an-hour on surface streets, started in Mira Mesa a few miles from Ironwood Road east of Interstate 15 and north of Pomerado Road around 1:45 a.m.

According to police, the two suspects, in a silver car, were casing vehicles in apartment complex parking lots.

Police responded and tried to make a traffic stop, but the suspects drove off, leading officers on a high speed chase. Eventually, the suspects' car crashed into a pickup truck in the Scripps Ranch area, causing their car to catch on fire. The two then tried to escape, but officers promptly caught them.

Police and fire crews quickly extinguished the flames and then officers found what appeared to be stolen property in the car, including a car stereo.

The suspects are expected to face multiple charges.
