San Diego police officer takes flight for charity

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - He lost his left leg in a motorcycle crash, when a student driver hit him in June. But San Diego Police Detective Chappie Hunter has made a remarkable recovery and Sunday in Mission Bay, he proved his disability isn't holding him back.

Surrounded by his family and friends, Hunter put on this jetpack at Jetpack America's Flight Center and flew over Mission Bay.

Despite the accident that cost him his leg, Hunter says he is determined to live a normal life.

"Ok, I lost my leg. But mentally, I'm good. Nothing else happened to me. I can still see my family. You know, my wife and my kids. The most important thing in the world to me. I can still be his daddy," Hunter explained. "And for me to be able to come out and work hard to get to this point where I can do something like this, hopefully, it just motivates other people to want to do the same thing."

Hunter flew the jetpack to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which helped him obtain his prosthetic leg.
