Students raising sea bass in the classroom

Posted: Updated:

LA MESA (CBS 8) - Students at Helix Charter High School in La Mesa are getting a valuable lesson on raising white sea bass.

Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute delivered juvenile white sea bass to the school Thursday as part of its Sea Bass in the Classroom program.

The fish were raised at the institute's fish hatchery in Carlsbad.

Students at Helix will now take care of the fish, and eventually release them into the wild.

The Sea Bass in the Classroom program is funded in part by an SDG&E Environmental Champions grant.
