Not guilty plea from Orange County man accused of assaulting fan after Chargers-Cowboys game

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An Orange County man accused of smashing a beer bottle over a fan's head following the Chargers-Cowboys game at Qualcomm Stadium pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Ramon Heredia, 41, faces anywhere from probation to four years in prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Adam Gordon.

Heredia -- who is free on $30,000 bail -- was arrested in connection with a Sept. 29 post-game brawl between tailgating Chargers and Cowboy fans in the parking lot. The melee was captured on videotape by someone using his cell phone.

The video shows Heredia and an unidentified man striking two men about the head with beer bottles, according to San Diego police. One of the two victims was taken to a hospital, but the other did not require medical attention.

Police said the brawl started as a verbal altercation and escalated from there. The second man seen in the video striking a victim on the head is still being sought.

A readiness conference was scheduled for Nov. 18 and a preliminary hearing for Dec. 9.
