USD classes resume following power outage

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A major outage in the Morena area knocked out electricity on the campus of USD, cancelling classes.

According to SDG&E, it happened around 6 a.m. and caused most of the buildings on the campus to lose power.

Thanks to an emergency response system, school officials were able to warn students.

"We were able to notify students using our emergency text messaging system. Those messages started around 8:15 or so. The first message was that classes wont start until 10 as we tried to understand the issue," Assistant Vice President of Public Affairs Pamela Graypayton said.

The power was restored around 12: 30  p.m., and classes resumed at 2:30 p.m.

Officials say the cause of the outage is still under investigation.
